VOJVODINA AND ITS RUTHENIANS: ABOUT THE LANGUAGE, CULTURE AND HISTORY OF RUTHENIANS IN VOJVODINA
Released on the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Ruthenian language in Vojvodina codification, this monography is to present the triple phenomenon of Pannonian Ruthenians – national, linguistic as well as cultural and legal. Therefore, its purpose is to discuss three aspects of the survival and existence of Ruthenians in Vojvodina: the history of colonisation and shaping Ruthenians as a separate ethnos, the history of the language as a main nation-building factor and finally the contemporary functioning of Ruthenians’ language as a minority one in multinational Vojvodina. Due to the coexistence of these three elements, community comprising today only 11 483 persons still exhibits remarkable vitality, fostering and developing its tradition, culture, education, media and language.
