ABKHAZIAN SEPARATISM IN GEORGIA: FUTURE PROSPECTS

The article presents the complicated Georgian-Abkhazian relations over the following years and their impact on contemporary possibilities of resolving the conflict. The Russian presence in Abkhazia is also analyzed: the reconstruction of the airport in Sukhumi and the construction of a naval base. In the context of full-scale Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the increased presence of Russian troops in Abkhazia may lead to annexation of the unrecognized republic by Russia. The work presents the attitude of the Abkhazians towards this scenario and compares it with pro-Russian sympathies in South Ossetia.
