LANGUAGE STATUS AND THE SIZE OF USER’S MENTAL VOCABULARY IN THE CONTEXT OF EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A language may have a different status for its users. This fact significantly affects the size and shape of their mental dictionary, as well as its flexibility, which, in turn, determines access time to its data. In the text, apart from the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the mental lexicon depending on the status which a language has for its users, strategies of developing lexical competence resonating with the status requirements will be presented.
