BURIAL CHAPEL OF SZYMON KALINOWSKI AT THE ST. MARTIN OF TOURS CHURCH IN BISKUPICE BY WIELICZKA

The article presents a chapel built after 1682 at the church in Biskupice founded by a soldier and landowner Szymon Kalinowski (d. 1695) of the coat of arms Ślepowron, who after twenty years of armed service settled in a nearby place Przebieczany. Octagonal domed brick chapel with a crypt has its analogies among some 17th century buildings in Lesser Poland. It is decorated with wall paintings, there is a black marble epitaph plate with verse, once there was a retable with pictures. Before 2020 the chapel was dilapidated and damp, its decorations repeatedly repainted and the retable exchanged for one in the late baroque style, probably in the 19th century.
Research, conservation works and especially a discovery and renovation of the original paintings together with the arrangement of the whole interior have led to restore to the Kalinowski chapel its artistic and historical value.
