THE POLISH INDEPENDENCE UNDERGROUND IN THE RZESZÓW REGION TOWARDS UKRAINIANS

The text discusses the position taken by the structures of the Home Army in the Rzeszow region towards the Ukrainians. The activities undertaken by the Rzeszów Home Army subdivision against the Ukrainian underground in order to protect the Polish population from its threat, such as the “Wet” and “Kośba” operations, carried out at the end of the German occupation in the spring of 1944, were presented in more detail. Several dozen activists of the Ukrainian Central Committee were killed then, including teachers and Greek catholic clergy leading nationalist agitation. These actions were aimed at stopping the Ukrainian underground from carrying out an ethnic cleansing.
