THE WORLD OF FANTASTIC BEINGS IN MUSLIM MEDIEVAL BESTIARIES AND THEIR SUBSEQUENT PRESENCE IN CULTURE

The article presents selected examples of the world of fantastic beings in medieval and Muslim literature, reaching back to bestiaries and folk literature. Setting the review against the background of religious sources, it also presents supernatural beings not mentioned in the Koran, as the last part of the work focuses on the “dragon” and its image in the imagination of the Islamic world.
