AKTUALNE WIADOMOŚCI Z POLSKI I ZE ŚWIATA” – A NATIONALIST-RADICAL MAGAZINE FROM THE OCCUPATION YEARS. WORLDVIEW – IDEOLOGY – POLITICS

The magazine “Aktualne Wiadomości z Polski i ze Świata” (“Current News from Poland and the World”) provides an insight into the nature of the national-radical ideology espoused by the Szaniec Group, as well as its aspirations and goals, allowing for an assessment of the group’s role in Polish political life during World War II. The content used in this article carries signifi cant informative value, presenting a brief but highly accurate picture of Polish national radicalism. One of the primary issues addressed in the magazine’s pages was worldview. Catholicism was referenced as the axiological foundation for its ideological assumptions. It continued to develop worldviews established in the early 1930s, which remained unchanged in the following decade. In other areas, the magazine explored numerous new concepts, largely related to the changing situation on the fronts of World War II and the politics of the time, which could create new conditions for Poland. The most important topics discussed in the magazine included issues such as: 1) Catholic nationalism, which led to a negative attitude towards liberal democracy, communism and Nazism; 2) the introduction of an authoritarian system in post-war Poland; 3) the social and economic reconstruction of the country; 4) a negative attitude towards national minorities hostile to Poland; 5) geopolitical matters and related border demands (the issue of Poland’s post-war western border was treated as a priority by Polish national radicals); 6) the preservation of organizational and political independence by the National Armed Forces.
