“STATUTES OF THE LITERARY GUILD OF NOWY SĄCZ”
This article examines the origins, functioning, and significance of the Statuty Bractwa Literackiego w Nowym Sączu (Statutes of the Literary Guild of Nowy Sącz) from 1608, one of the most important surviving sources on the activities of literary guilds in Poland in the early 17th century. The author reconstructs the history of literary brotherhoods in Poland, their goals, structure, and evolution, drawing on visitation reports from Solec nad Wisłą (1595, 1603) and comparative archival material. He devotes particular attention to the role of Father Jan Januszowski, Archdeacon of Nowy Sącz, printer, and humanist, whose activities contributed to the systematization of the confraternity’s operating principles and the drafting of the complete statutes of the Nowy Sącz confraternity.
