THE SOURCE AND MEANING OF ART. HEIDEGGER IN CONVERSATION WITH HISAMATSU, JAPANESE PHILOSOPHER AND ZEN MASTER
Article “The Source and Meaning of Art. Heidegger in Conversation with Hisamatsu, Japanese Philosopher and Zen Master” discusses Martin Heidegger’s dialogue with Shinichi Hisamatsu, Japanese philosopher and Zen master. Its most important moment was the two-hour colloquium Art and Thinking, chaired by Heidegger and attended by Hisamatsu, which took place at the University of Freiburg on May 18, 1958. Generally speaking, Heidegger’s dialogue with Hisamatsu concerned the possibility of emerging thinking that would be common to Western and Far Eastern cultures. In this context, they consider the question of art, trying to define its essence in the horizon of two cultures, in order to find what would be common to these two approaches to art.
