Synopsis

TERTIUM NON DATUR? MIŁOWIT KUNIŃSKI READS LEV SHESTOV

The article refers to the comments made by the Polish philosopher Miłowit Kuniński in the text Czy konflikt między wiarą a rozumem jest nieuchronny? Uwagi o filozofii Lwa Szestowa (Is Conflict Between Faith and Reason Inevitable? Some Remarks on lev Shestov’s Philosophy) published in 2007. The author refers to a few basic themes of the Shestov’s philosophy, which form the basis for this critical development of the subject matter. Thus, the following issues emerge: a relation of philosophical reason for religious faith, philosophical status, the figure of Socrates and the problem of daimonion, the problem of religion and, finally, specificity of religious experience (faith). Ultimately, proposed considerations are aimed at unveiling a specifically Shestovian character of religious experience: the philosopher’s religious experience, which becomes a philosophical experience.
