ON UNDERSTANDING THE TERMS: SPELLING ERROR, GRAPHIC ERROR AND SPELLING MISTAKE BY TEACHERS OF POLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE – A SURVEY STUDY
The article deals with the issue of spelling errors in teaching Polish as a foreign language (PFL). Its aim is to present how PFL teachers understand the terms: spelling error, graphic error and spelling mistake, and to present definitions of the aforementioned terms which would identify the differences between them. The research material comes from an online survey and it indicates that the term graphic error is used to refer to misuse of both allographs and graphemes. Survey answers also suggest that the term spelling mistake is to a large extent unstable and should be further specified. The article concludes with a suggested spelling error classification which takes into account the results of the study.
