Synopsis
THE ISSUE OF TIME IN PHILOSOPHIC LITERARY STUDIES ОF DMYTRO CHYZHEVSKY
The article presents key aspects of the issue of time as discussed in the literary studies and philosophic works of Dmytro Chyzhevsky (1894-1977), an outstanding researcher of Slavonic literatures. Comprehension of time in Chyzhevsky’s works is interdisciplinary and was caused by his scientific interests in astronomy, mathematics, physics, politics, philosophy, mystics, music, and literature. The analysis of Chyzhevsky’s publications allows to distinguish three ways of conceptualizing time: 1) through applying the experience of sciences while describing time phenomena from the field of humanities (time measurement in literary texts and scientific conceptions of time); 2) through mystic conceptions of time and connected ideas of immortality (“eternal return”); 3) through Hegelian tradition of “dialectics of time”, that is, the change of historico-cultural periods as well as dependence in understanding cultural and literary phenomena on the time of their emergence and the time of their perception. The examples of correlation of those three directions in studying of cultural and literary phenomena are presented in the article.
