BORDERLAND AS A CULTURAL MELTING POT, A PLACE OF A DIALOGUE AND IDENTITY DISCOURSES - AN OBSERVATION BY A POLISH STUDIES STUDENT
The purpose of the publication is an attempt to show the borderland as a specific and an important place in contemporary Polish language education. The following borderland conditions: a cultural melting pot (multiculturalism), an intercultural dialogue, and identity discourses, were considered special. Efforts have been made to show that Polish and Slovak literature and culture play the role of a documentation of cross-border identities. The world at the cultural nexus was shown from the perspective of individuals (authors, originators, and literature and culture researchers) as well as that of wider communities (students and inhabitants of the studied regions). The study has also emphasized the role of the agreement between the Limanowa and the Orava microregions in providing a great opportunity to discover and appreciate the Polish identity seen through the eyes of the Slovaks. An attempt to answer the question Which comes first: a boundary or a frontier? – is also meant to encourage the modern youth to reflect on the multidimensionality of the world.
