Synopsis
BIBLICAL KORZEC ‘BUSHEL’. A SKETCH FROM THE HISTORY OF POLISH VOCABULARY AND PHRASEOLOGY. TRANSLATIONAL ASPECTS
The article attempts to describe the fate and forms of the single Polish lexeme korzec in the context of its biblical origins, as attested on the pages of the Synoptic Gospels (Mt 5:15; Mk 4:21; Lk 11:33; 16:7). The primary goal of this description is to shed light on the source (canonical) context, and on the translational aspect of these New Testament passages – both in the area of ancient and more recent native translations, while simultaneously addressing the issues of translational equivalence that come to light. Additionally, a separate aim of the study is to indicate the type and the status of native forms and constructions that were shaped after the biblical passages in question, which often hold the rank of established biblicisms or of common linguistic units in Polish.
