Synopsis

POLISH AND CHINESE LINGUISTIC POLITENESS IN THE CONTEXT OF POLISH GLOTTODIDACTICS

This paper focuses on the study of differences and similarities in selected politeness acts, such as forms of address, greetings, self-introduction, and farewells, from a formal and pragmatic perspective in contemporary Polish and Chinese languages. The analysis is based on current literature on the subject as well as interviews conducted with Chinese learners of Polish as a foreign language and Polish learners of Chinese as a foreign language. This study not only advances research on verbal acts of politeness in linguistics but also supplements issues in Polish language teaching and learning methodology, with particular attention to the native language and culture of Chinese-speaking learners of Polish. The research results aim to draw the attention of both Chinese students and Polish language lecturers to the specificity of language etiquette in interlingual and intercultural contexts. This can significantly contribute to a more reflective approach to teaching and learning the Polish language and culture, as well as facilitate communication between Chinese and Polish speakers.
