Synopsis

WHAT WAS EATEN IN VILLAGES OF LESSER POLAND AND OF THE KLISZCZAK HIGHLANDERS (BASED ON PORÓWNAWCZY SŁOWNIK TRZECH WSI MAŁOPOLSKICH [COMPARATIVE LEXICON  OF THREE LESSER POLAND VILLAGES] BY MARIAN KUCAŁA)

The article is a description of the food-related vocabulary which Marian Kucała included in his dictionary related to the local dialect of his native village Więciórki juxtaposed with the vocabulary of two other villages in Lesser Poland. It was extracted from both the thematic fields of Eating and Drinking, and Plants, and partly also from those related to domestic work associated with food preparation, i.e. Cooking utensils and Preparing food. Then, the individual semantic groups evident in the collected lexicographic material were characterised in more detail, which made it possible to draw preliminary conclusions about the quality of the food eaten in Kliszczak villages in the first half of the twentieth century. The conclusions were confirmed by other dialectological descriptions of the traditional diet of villagers.
