Synopsis

ARTICULATIVE PHONETICS – SPEECH THERAPY AND LANGUAGE TEACHING PERSPECTIVE

This article concentrates on pronunciation and its importance in the process of mastering/ acquiring a language. It also shows the convergence of speech therapy and language learning perspectives on articulatory phonetics. The author emphasizes that the development of users’ phonological competence depends on a number of individual factors which should be considered, because in the language teaching they decide on the material selection, and in speech therapy – on procedures taken. Well-chosen techniques pay off, they not only help to improve the users’ phonological competence itself, but also facilitate the acquisition of other language competences.
