YI LIJUN – PROFILE AS A STUDENT OF POLISH STUDIES IN WARSAW BASED ON DOCUMENTS FROM THE WARSAW UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES
The jubilee of 70 Years of Polish Studies in Beijing, celebrated in 2024, became an excellent opportunity to document its Warsaw roots. They have been confirmed by the research carried out at the Warsaw University Archives. The first head of the Chair of Polish Studies at the Peking University, established in 1954, came to Warsaw to study Polish in 1950. Four years later, Yi Lijun began her studies at the Warsaw University. Later on, she blossomed into the outstanding Polish teacher, scholar and translator, the ambassador of Polish literature in China; she tutored several generations of Chinese students of Polish studies. The documents from the Warsaw University Archives, discussed in this article, are intended to supplement the portrait of that Chinese scholar with materials and information about her student days in Warsaw, and, at the same time, support the historical ties between the Departments of Polish Studies in Beijing and in Warsaw.
