Streszczenie
DIALOG OF TEXTS IN VIKTOR PELEVIN’S DYSTOPIAS: ON THE PROBLEM OF INTERTEXTUALITY IN THE NOVEL TRANSHUMANISM INC.
In his recent dystopian novels, Viktor Pelevin constructs a distinctive vision of world history that incorporates the narrative and historiosophical lines not only of his earlier works (beginning with Empire V), but also of other texts of global culture. The chapter places its main emphasis on the resonance of internal intertextuality — namely, the writer’s attempt to conceptually fuse previously separate stories into a single, continuous narrative about human history. The analysis of this concept employs terminology developed by Julia Kristeva (intertextuality) and Yuval Noah Harari (homo deus). In addition, the author interprets the novel Transhumanism Inc. in relation to William Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Tom Stoppard’s play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. This approach opens Pelevin’s dystopian project to the tradition of Western literature, theatre, and cinema.
