A FEW WORDS ON SPIRITUAL KINSHIP (DICKER-BRANDEIS, KRAMER, MAKAROVA)
This article examines the issue of spiritual kinship. The protagonists of the text, in the context of the affinity of thought, community of goals and aspirations, are Elena Makarova (born in 1951), Edith Kramer (1916–2014) and Friedl Dicker-Brandeis (1898–1944). This is an example of a relationship in which the timelessness and universality of an idea, and the confirmation of someone’s genius and pioneering role in a particular field (in this case, art therapy) are represented by the memory of posterity and the continuators of a work that is subject to the laborious process of clearing away the rubble, searching for witnesses and artefacts, and then reconstructing events. The reflections on the Russian translation of Kramer’s book Art as Therapy with Children, to which Makarova wrote both the preface and the afterword, are not only a tribute to Dicker-Brandeis, but also a collection of remarks about the birth of art therapy and its evolution as a separate scientific discipline.
