Synopsis

AUTONOMOUS AND FEDERALIST CONCEPTS OF V. VYNNYCHENKO IN THE CONTEXT OF HIS POLICY TOWARD THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT

Volodymyr Kyrylovych Vynnychenko (1880-1951) was such a creative personality that when analyzing it one may encounter various paradoxes, a lack of ordered links and blatant contradictions. „Older researchers”, who were educated on the basis of Soviet opinions, emphasize that this presented an opportunity for them to break away from the well-established perception of a certain historical period, e.g. „the concept of two revolutions: the bourgeois and the socialist revolution”, and that it opened new avenues of invention.
As V. Vynnychenko accorded superiority to socialist ideas, he relegated national themes to a secondary position but he did not reject them completely. He always remained true to these ideas, even if they were inconsistent with Russian socialism or Ukrainian national ideas. He claimed that Russia was the only place where one could „build socialism”. He supported the autonomous and federalist concepts of the Russian state. He put forward his own version of socialism, which he referred to as „collectocracy”. He called for the establishment of a uniform socialist ministry, jointly constituted by the governments of Ukraine, Don, the Caucasus, Kubani etc. along with the central organs of authority in Russia.
