THE OCTOBER REVOLUTION AND THE SOVIET PERIOD IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF HISTORICAL EDUCATION IN CONTEMPORARY RUSSIA

The paper presents an analysis of historical education in contemporary Russia in relation to the October Revolution and the soviet period. Since 1991, Russia has found it difficult to describe the revolutionary events and soviet past objectively. The attitude towards the soviet history in Russia is still a part of the politics of memory. In 2013, the historical-cultural standard, which contained a list of „difficult historical questions”, was adopted as a basis for discussion in schools. However, the teachers still prefer the classic narrative presented in history textbooks. The article aims to separate the elements of soviet past which are viewed positively by the authors of Russian history textbooks.
