Lem spotyka Latoura, czyli Detektywi w sieci technologii ………. 599
Synopsis
LEM MEETS LATOUR: DETECTIVES IN THE WEB OF TECHNOLOGY
Lem’s frequently emphasized fascination with chance, coincidence, or blind luck takes on new meaning in the context of science fiction novels such as Weir’s “The Martian” or Stephenson’s “7Ew”, which attribute the creation, functioning, and failures of highly advanced technologies precisely to the workings of chance. When we return to Lem’s less frequently analyzed novels, “Investigation” and “Katar” (Qatar), they prove to be a good testing ground for demonstrating the foundations of Latour’s relational actor-network theory, especially as presented in his still-unassimilated Polish translation of the science fiction work “Aramis ou L’amour des techniques”. It utilizes the genre conventions of the detective novel to analyze a failed project involving innovative technology for a highly automated urban rail transport system in Paris, thereby allowing for a simulated encounter between the Polish writer and the French philosopher.
