THE JANUARY UPRISING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

This article examines the January Uprising from the perspective of the United States, focusing primarily on the administration of President Abraham Lincoln. It briefly outlines the domestic situation in the US during this period, which helps explain the White House’s pragmatic policy regarding the Polish question. The text draws on an analysis of scholarly historical works concerning U.S foreign policy and reactions to the January Uprising, as well as political commentary and the activities of the insurgents themselves within the United States. The study explores the subject from both a political standpoint, highlighting relations between the Union and Russia, and the perspective of shifting American public opinion regarding the fate of the Polish insurgents.
