ON THE ISSUE OF CREATING THE FIRST MILITARY UNDERGROUND ORGANIZATIONS. WŁADYSŁAW SIKORSKI AND OFFI CERS WITH SANATION BACKGROUNDS IN THE SERVICE FOR POLAND’S VICTORY (SZP) AND THE UNION OF ARMED STRUGGLE (ZWZ)

This text will show the beginnings of the formation of the first Polish underground organizations after the defeat of the September 1939 campaign. The aim is to demonstrate that, even at the time of their organization, the staffing of offi cers became a significant problem. The research questions will focus on the problems associated with recruiting officers and their acceptance by the Polish government in exile. The research hypothesis is that the Polish authorities in exile made every effort to prevent the return to active service of persons who were in any way connected with the Sanation camp. These actions, which were motivated by revenge, signifi cantly contributed to the removal of many of the most distinguished and experienced soldiers from positions of infl uence in the army. These actions were not entirely consistent.
