Synopsis
ON SCHOLARSHIP, ETHICS AND MEDIA CONTEXTS – A FEW REFLECTIONS WRITTEN TO MARK THE ANNIVERSARY OF PROF. KRZYSZTOF PLEŚNIAROWICZ
The chapter discusses the destruction of social stratification, which largely caused by changes in the media market, especially social media. Knowledge is losing importance, while wealth, often result of hoarding media popularity, is gaining. This affliction also affects. Reliable researchers are losing ground, while various “scientific sleuths” gain, as do shareholders in various pseudo-cooperatives, who inflate their Hirsch index. A case in point is professor from Opole who, in this way, achieved this measure, which is higher than that of Nobel Prize winner Sir Roger Penrose. If science, not only in Poland, wants to maintain public trust, it should value scholars such as Professor Barbara Czerniawska and the protagonist of the Jubilee Book, Professor Krzysztof Pleśniarowicz.
