Synopsis

FROM BRUSSELS TO KYIV

Seventy years is a long enough span of a person’s life to allow for certain assessments and reflections. In the case of the Honored Jubilee, this also encompasses his extraordinarily rich activity in both the field of institutional culture and teaching and research. The Professor’s domain is primarily theater and his vast knowledge of its history and avantgarde, while mine is art history – mainly contemporary – and art criticism. In hindsight, it seems natural to me that our paths were bound to cross, given our shared interest in the work of Tadeusz Kantor. After the Professor left Cricoteka in 2000, we only saw each other on the occasion of ceremonies or exhibition openings. It seems that the five years and a few months of our collaboration were just a brief episode in the Professor’s long career. What brought us together – and I believe still unites us today – is our fascination with the art of Tadeusz Kantor.
