STORYTELLING IN READING PROMOTION: WHAT ELEMENTS CONSTITUTE AN ENGAGING STORY?

Storytelling is closely linked to library activities. Expanding its potential can transform a library into a place for engaging with narratives—not solely through books, but also through the spoken word. To achieve this, it is essential to understand the basic elements of a good story. Based on H.C. Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Match Girl, the key elements of an engaging narrative are presented. Adapting these elements to the needs of librarians will provide the foundation for immersive activities that engage participants not only physically but, above all, emotionally. This will build a relationship based on trust and regular library attendance.
