Synopsis

ISLAMIC HISTORY THROUGH JAPANESE LINES

Japanese pop culture has enjoyed recognition in Arabic-speaking countries for many years. In recent years, collaboration between Japan and some Persian Gulf states in animation production has also been increasing. While nostalgia for older titles undoubtedly plays an important role, a less obvious and rarely discussed aspect is the extent to which Islam may have become a source of inspiration in this transcultural dialogue. This text offers a preliminary exploration of this dimension against the backdrop of the re-traditionalization process, understood as the combination of traditional values and religious conservatism with a modern, globalized world.
