EXCERPTS FROM THE HISTORY OF THE POLISH BREWING INDUSTRY: THE WOJNICZ BREWERY, 1867-1915

Wojnicz, a fortified early-mediaeval castellan burgwall and trade settlement, has a wealth of brewing tradition. In the recent years, research into the history of the town has shed more light on its economic development, trade, craft and everyday life of its inhabitants. Still, there is a general feeling that brewing, albeit an important industrial activity in Wojnicz, is yet to be properly discussed in a separate study. In fact, brewing was present since the town’s early days until as late as 1915, when the production in the local war-torn brewery was discontinued. This study, though far from perfect or complete, is an attempt at filling the gap and restoring the brewing craft and industry to its rightful place in the town’s history.
