MODERN CONVENT SEALS FROM THE CISTERCIAN ABBEY IN KRZESZÓW – LEGAL FUNCTIONS AND ICONOGRAPHY

The article presents the convent seals of the Cistercian monastery in Krzeszów in the early modern times. Until the second half of the 16th century, the convent of Krzeszów used one medieval seal. In the following decades, the convent used two main seals, sigillum mediocre and five small seals. Seal images depicted various types of Mary (including Immaculata). In the pictorial field the convent’s coat of arms was also included. The first coat of arms indicated Christ, the second the bonds with other Cistercian communities in Silesia.
