SCIENTIFIC JUBILEE OF PROFESSOR JOZEF KĄŚ – A DIALECTOLOGIST, TEACHER, AND MASTER
The article provides a concise overview of the most important scientific contributions of Professor Józef Kąś, and the academic journey that he pursued as an eminent linguist and dialectologist at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. Tracing in chronological order the development of Prof. Kąś’s linguistic interests, the article outlines his most significant works in the field of dialectal phonetics, sociolinguistics, and dialectal lexicology and lexicography. It briefly characterises the Author’s most notable lexicographic achievements: Słownik gwary orawskiej [‘A dictionary of the Orava dialect’] (2003) and Ilustrowany leksykon gwary i kultury podhalańskiej [‘An illustrated lexicon of the dialect and culture of Podhale’] (2015–2019). The paper highlights their most important and innovative editorial solutions which have garnered recognition from the scientific community in Poland and abroad.
