Zmiany w słownictwie cieszyńskim od drugiej połowy XIX w. (na podstawie Słownika Andrzeja Cinciały) .......... 223
Synopsis
CHANGES IN THE VOCABULARY OF CIESZYN SILESIA SINCE THE SECOND HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY (BASED ON ANDRZEJ CINCIAŁA’S SŁOWNIK)
The article presents the differences in the lexical resources captured in the 19th-century Słownik [‘Dictionary’] by Andrzej Cinciała, compared to contemporary dialect dictionaries of Cieszyn Silesia. They come down to four main types: (1) resulting from changes in the represented world, (2) from the reduction of the influence of German and Czech in the Polish part of Cieszyn Silesia, and from the increased impact of Czech in the Czech part, (3) from the highly dynamic nature of expressive vocabulary, and (4) from a decrease in the number of units in lexical-semantic fields in the case of disappearing lexemes. The process of change that was recorded this way proves that dialect, like any living language, is subject to continuous change which does not necessarily indicate its decay or decline.
