Synopsis
DIALOGUE IN FOLK DRAMA (USING THE EXAMPLE OF WESELE HOCZOSKIE [‘THE HACZOW WEDDING’])
The article discusses the structure of dialogue in folk drama using the example of the text of Wesele hoczoskie (‘The Haczów Wedding’). Folk drama is understood here as a dramatic piece authored by a writer of a folk background. The structure of dialogue in such a text is depends on multiple factors, including the genre of the text (which dictates the division into primary text, i.e. character dialogues, and secondary text), the theme of the piece, and the dialectal forms of the language used in the work. The folk wedding depicted in the work is linked to rituals and a high degree of conventionality. The linguistic forms of dialogue replies are based on a culturally determined rural model of politeness, in which polite acts are based on imperative verb forms. Hence, the most common grammatical form of reply in the dialogue is the imperative form. An important role in the dialogue is played by dialectal metatextual operators, such as: we, wej, wejcie, whose use and functions are presented in the article.
