Synopsis
ON A CERTAIN PHENOMENON OF POLISH DIALECTS OF THE WESTERN BORDERLANDS: -CH > -K
The lack of dialectal records from the western part of Greater Poland clearly affects their overall representation in the existing literature. This applies especially to pre-war attestations. The map in Monika Gruchmanowa’s article, showing the state of preservation of Adam Tomaszewski’s materials, clearly indicates the lack of documentation from that period, especially in the western part of Greater Poland. It is only post-war recordings that make the observation of the dialect of this area possible. The article addresses the issue of the presence of -ch > -k change which is commonly regarded as a Lesser Polish feature. Post-war recordings by Zenon Sobierajski indicate the potential presence of this feature in western Greater Poland. Field explorations conducted after 2001, aimed at lexicographic use, have further confirmed the contemporary vitality of this phenomenon.
