EQUALITY AND ANTI-DISCRIMINATION POLICY IN CONTEMPORARY GEORGIA – CHALLENGES AT LEGISLATIVE AND SOCIO-CULTURAL LEVELS
The aim of this article is to analyze the equality and anti-discrimination policies of contemporary Georgia within the context of changing socio-cultural conditions. The research problem focuses on identifying the main obstacles preventing progress in gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Georgia’s post-Soviet transformation brought significant changes to various aspects of social life. Over the past thirty years, it has made substantial progress, implementing a range of legal reforms and initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality. Despite this, Georgia still faces many challenges, including the persistent high level of gender stereotyping, the patriarchal system of cultural norms, violence against women, the significant involvement of the Georgian Orthodox Church in promoting conservative values, and insufficient institutional support for gender equality policies, which in many aspects remain merely declarative.
