Działania ustawodawcze rządu federalnego a sprawiedliwość ekologiczna i rasizm środowiskowy na przykładzie Cancer Alley .......... 97
Synopsis
Ethnic and racial minorities residing in the United States are disproportionately exposed to the negative consequences of environmental pollution. A prominent example is Cancer Alley – a region of Louisiana that serves as a national hub for the petrochemical industry. African Americans living in this area suffer from significantly higher rates of cancer incidence and mortality than the general U.S. population. In response to such overt environmental racism, the concept of environmental justice emerged in the 1980s and has since been gradually incorporated into U.S. federal legislation (e.g., the Clean Air Act). The aim of this article is to explore the issue of environmental racism and the concept of environmental justice in the American context, as well as to analyze key federal environmental protection laws, their enforcement mechanisms, and their actual impact on improving the lives of residents in Cancer Alley.
