Synopsis
THE SWEDES AND PRUSSIANS AS INVADERS IN KRAKÓW. SKETCHES FOR CITY PLANS
Among the cartographic sources showing earlymodern Kraków, plans and maps created during the sieges of the city occupy a special place. For the invaders, the capital of Poland was an exceptional loot, which is why great attention was paid to documenting such an important acquisition. The article indicates the possibilities of discovering unknown sketches for plans of Kraków in the Swedish Riksarkivet and the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. They concern in particular the Swedish attacks on the city in 1655 and 1702, as well as the Prussian occupation in the years 1794–1796. These discoveries are primarily the result of work within the team project of the National Program for the Development of Humanities conducted under the supervision of Karol Łopatecki.
