Synopsis
MARY „PINKY” HARDY MACARTHUR AND HER SON, THE GENERAL
General Douglas MacArthur’s (1880–1964) life and early career were profoundly influenced by his mother, Mary, known as “Pinky.” During his childhood, she was his first teacher, as there were no schools on the so-called American “Frontier,” where he was raised. Later, she continued to shape his career in various ways – encouraging him when he needed support and using her friendship with her son’s demanding superior, General John Pershing, to aid his advancements.
