Synopsis

INFORMATION COMBAT AND WARFARE – CONCEPTUAL SCOPE AND ENVIRONMENT: AN ATTEMPT AT A THEORETICAL APPROACH

The article explores the conceptual framework and operational landscape of information conflicts, emphasizing their dynamic evolution in response to technological progress and shifting security challenges. It critically analyzes the ambiguity of these terms, arising from the fluid nature of modern conflicts, where data and information serve as both weapons and targets. The study examines the overlap between psychological, cyber, and cognitive warfare, highlighting the strategic use of information to manipulate perception, influence decision-making, and disrupt adversarial structures. By reviewing key theoretical perspectives from Polish and international research, the paper provides a comparative analysis of definitions, classifications, and doctrinal approaches. The findings underscore the increasing relevance of information operations in contemporary geopolitical rivalry, the erosion of clear distinctions between war and peace, and the necessity for adaptive security strategies to counter emerging threats in the digital age.
