ACTIVITIES OF THE KAROL WOJTYŁA WARMIA AND MAZURY PEDAGOGICAL LIBRARY IN ELBLĄG IN PROMOTING READING AMONG POLES LIVING ABROAD

This article presents the initiatives undertaken by the Karol Wojtyła Warmia and Mazury Pedagogical Library in Elbląg to promote reading among Polish diaspora, particularly in the Vilnius region of Lithuania and in Ukraine. The author discusses in detail the Library’s projects that were carried out in cooperation with non-governmental organizations and directed at educational communities in the Vilnius region in 2022–2024. Furthermore, the paper examines online educational activities implemented in 2025 for Polish teachers in Ukraine through the All-Ukrainian Methodological Centre for Teaching the Polish Language and Culture in Drohobych. The author provides examples of grant applications she developed, which led to projects implemented primarily in partnership with the Elbląg Cultural Society. The paper also outlines the legal framework and strategic documents governing funding applications for international cooperation, detailing the sources and principles of project financing. In discussing the Library’s initiatives aimed at fostering a reading culture among Poles living abroad, the author emphasizes the importance of the Library’s human resources, facilities, and technical infrastructure, and formulates recommendations for cooperation between pedagogical libraries and the third sector.
