Synopsis

THE UNPLEASANTNESS OF POETRY: ON GALINA RYMBU’S MY VAGINA

The article offers an interpretation of My Vagina by Galina Rymbu, read as a significant text within contemporary Russian-language feminist poetry. The starting point of the analysis is the category of the “unpleasantness” of poetry, understood as a conscious transgression of aesthetic comfort and cultural taboos surrounding the female body. The author examines the ways in which Rymbu reclaims language for female corporeality, presenting menstruation, sexuality, and intimacy outside the logic of shame and silence. An important interpretative context is provided by the case of Julia Tsvetkova and the feminist slogan “the personal is political.” In the final part of the article, the poem is interpreted as a manifesto against patriarchal control, militarism, and authoritarian violence, while the concluding “monologue of the vagina” is presented as a figure of female agency and the revolutionary potential of poetry.
