Synopsis
LESS CULT, LESS MAGIC – CRACOW IN MARCIN ŚWIETLICKI’S TWELVE
This article focuses on the image of Cracow in Marcin Świetlicki’s crime novel Twelve. The analysis emphasises artistic ways of creating the vision of the city as an alternative to its official information policy – described as unwelcoming and dangerous. The role that Cracow played in the plot, as well as its influence on the main and minor characters is shown. The author reflects on the “us and them” opposition introduced by Świetlicki and accented through the city’s elements. Interpretation of Twelve includes stylistics and philosophical repercussions – primarily concentrating on the master’s (futile) efforts to find the place that he could call his own.
