Synopsis
NOMENCLATURE RELATED TO THE HANDICRAFT TOY-MAKING OF THE ŻYWIEC-SUCHA BESKIDZKA REGION
The article focuses on the topic of folk toy-making in the areas between Żywiec and Sucha Beskidzka. It outlines the origins of wooden toys and presents the contemporary cultivation of this tradition. The study utilizes research on folk toys conducted by Małgorzata Oleszkiewicz, handwritten notes by Seweryn Udziela, and publications by Tadeusz Seweryn titled Polish Folk Toys and by Teresa Lewińska titled The Colorful World of Toys: Folk Toys in Poland. The next part of the text focuses on the analysis of names associated with this craft. A total of 89 lexemes, which refer to toys, their makers, and materials, were used for this analysis. These terms were collected from a corpus of scientific texts, journalistic articles, popular science publications, notes, and interviews conducted with residents of Stryszawa (all sources are listed in the bibliography). The lexemes related to this craft can be divided into thematic fields: names of toys, names of materials, names of tools, names of people, names of the craft, and names of decorations. Collecting the names related to toy-making in the article not only helps in preserving the tradition of regional toy-making art but also protects the vocabulary from being forgotten.
