INTERCULTURAL EXPERIENCES OF KONSTANTY SYMONOLEWICZ: SELECTED EXAMPLES OF CROSS- CULTURAL COMMUNICATION AND REFLECTIONS

The article presents selected aspects of intercultural interactions from the experiences and observations of Konstanty Symonolewicz, a Polish sinologist who worked for many years in Manchuria. Practices such as learning the Chinese language and utilizing local networks of influence demonstrate his deep adaptation to local norms and customs, while his observations on the Chinese engaging in intercultural interactions with foreigners highlight his exceptional insight and vigilance. Finally, the author refers to theoretical frameworks for intercultural communication analysis, including the theory of self-colonization, pointing out the complexity of Symonolewicz’s position as both a colonized individual and, at the same time, a participant in colonization.
