Andrzej Maksymilian Fredro (1620-1679), the castellan of Lviv and the voievode of Podolia, is one of the most prominent writers and political thinkers in the Polish- Lithuanian Commonwealth of the 17th century. He left behind an impressive literary heritage, in which the guiding principle was a reflection on the condition of the state, its government and the role of the idea Golden Liberty among the nobility. This edition consists of Fredro’s less renowned works covering the years 1672- 1679: two excerpts of Vir Consilii…, public appearances of a political kind (votive offerings and speeches delivered during parliament sittings), and a few copies of private correspondence (among others to King Jan III Sobieski or Great Crown hetman Dymitr Wiśniowiecki), in which his opinions on current political issues were included. According to the authors’ concept, it is the first part of the whole series devoted to the edition of Andrzej Maksymilian Fredro’s works.
