Synopsis

The additional anthroponymic descriptions (surnames) of members of the parish of Daleszyce in the Holy Cross Mountains are the subject of reflection in this work. The research encompasses the period between 1826 and 1830. Both the city of Daleszyce and the villages in its vicinity that at that time belonged to the parish have been subject to excerption. The material basis of this text is 616 anthroponymies that served the function of surnames in the nineteenth century. They were excerpted from the parish records (a register containing the names of those who were baptized) using 4,600 entries; they encompass the years from 1826 to 1830. Not only the first and last names of persons who appear in the entries in the register, but also non-anthroponymic information (for example, demographic data concerning the inhabitants of the parish: their age, sex, social and territorial status, etc.) have been excerpted from the parish records.
The overriding objective of this work was to study the anthroponymic system of that area, which includes classifying the collected material from the etymological- motivational, structural, and sociolinguistic perspectives and evaluating the level of development at which the surnames subjected to analysis were in the nineteenth century. Another important aim of this work was to situate anthroponymic units in a specific linguistic (the impact of the language of the region on the structure of surnames) and extralinguistic contexts (the impact of social structures and sociocultural factors on the shaping of an anthroponymic system). This text attempts to answer the question of why certain structural or semantic types of surnames could appear or dominate in the anthroponymic system of Daleszyce as well as what the characteristics of the surnames under study related to the place where they appeared are. Another of my aims in writing this work is to highlight all the types of structural surnames and study the frequency of particular forms of formants in an anthroponymic system under study; to identify the differences and similarities in the means of identifying all the social groups living in the parish in a given time (peasants, burghers, the social elites, the nobility) and studying the spelling in the parish records (anthroponymic and non-anthroponymic material) and the traits of the dialect that find verification in surnames and in non-onomastic material that are characteristic for a region. Thus, the aim of this work is to provide a holistic description of these individuals, or to subject them to semantic, structural, sociolinguistic, and dialectological analysis.
