ARMENO-IRANICA. THE ORIENTALIST’S MEMORIES
The book of Prof. Andrzej Pisowicz titled Armeno-Iranica. Wspomnienia orientalisty [Armeno-Iranica. The Orientalist’s Memories] consists of three parts. The first part includesthe author’s memories of Armenia, the second one concerns Iran, and the thirdpart constitutes Varia, in which the author presents other memories, concerning forexample his family. The book does not belong to autobiographical works. It has not been edited instrict chronological order. To increase attractiveness of his narration, the author mixesparts concerning events from a distant time with inserts which comprise much later occurrences. Furthermore, he does not deal with all periods of his life, showing only chosen episodes. In the context of the second part of Prof. A. Pisowicz’s memories, devoted to Iran, it should be mentioned that the name of Iran concerns here not only the Islamic Republic of Iran but also areas where other Iranian languages related to the Persian language are used (from the Indo-Iranian subgroup of the Indo-European languages).These are the areas with the following languages: Kurdish (Iran, Iraq, Türkiye, Syria), Pashto (Afghanistan) and Ossetian (the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, in the South of the Russian Federation near the Caucasus).
