The book compiles twenty-nine short essays to form a collection of Dzieła pośmiertne (znalezione za życia) [Posthumous Works (discovered during a lifetime)]. The title alludes to the well-known aphorism “Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting, experience perilous, and judgment difficult,” which regards medicine/art/philosophy as human endeavour transcending the span of an individual’s life. Immortality is achieved through culture, as a familiar slogan proclaims. Applause serves as currency with which books are offered at a promotional price, and occasionally even for free. All of this is done in pursuit of vain glory which fades after the proverbial fifteen minutes. Yet, this is a significant, indeed the utmost, achievement attainable in life. The essence of the Posthumous Works can be succinctly encapsulated in the titles of two lifetime discoveries: Wszystkie powody, aby się nie narodzić [All the Reasons Not to Be Born] and Kazanie o nadziei [A Sermon on Hope]. The individual volumes address significant philosophical issues including consciousness, taboo, infinity, doubt, evolution, authenticity, money, friendship, war, chance, fate, evil, hope, etc. The character of the book is not funereal, although an aura of transience accompanies both the individual texts and the work as a whole. The stylistic approach chosen by the Author easily confirms that the text was not penned by AI, as he employs a variety of literary genres, such as dialogue, experiment, interview, philosophical parable, and sermon.
