The professor portrait gallery in possession of the Collegium Maius Museum is the only collection of its kind in Poland and one of the most interesting university collections in Europe. The tradition of portraying the academics of the Krakow Alma Mater continues to this day. The Collegium Maius collection has been the subject of scientific research for many years. In 2010, a monograph titled Nowożytne portrety profesorów Akademii Krakowskiej w zbiorach Collegium Maius (Modern Portraits of Professors of the Krakow Academy in the Collections of Collegium Maius) was published, covering the oldest set of paintings from the 16th to the end of the 18th century. In 2019, another catalog was released, Portrety profesorów Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego działających od 1800 do 1945 roku w zbiorach Muzeum Collegium Maius (Portraits of Professors of the Jagiellonian University from 1800 to 1945 in the Collections of the Collegium Maius Museum). This publication is the third and final volume presenting the collection of professor portraits in possession of the Jagiellonian University Museum. It presents works painted after 1945. The created corpus constitutes an iconographic documentation presenting the portraits of distinguished professors while also establishing a narrative about the history of the oldest Polish university – the Krakow Alma Mater.
